Still in Banff

Hi all, sorry I haven’t been posting, its not easy to access internet over here, but here is what I have been upto lately.

I moved into my staff accommodation on Tuesday the 29th. It’s so nice to have my own place and not to be living out of a bag anymore, I actually have a wardrobe!! Here is a picture of my house, its pretty cool. It is broken up into two parts; I am in the back with 11 other people, 10 which are from Ontario, and one from Korea. Everyone here is really nice so it’s a lot of fun.

It was kinda sad to leave the hostel, but its not too bad as you leave one group of nice people and meet a new group right away. We have had a few nice sunny days this week. I wore myself out trying to do as many hikes as I could while it was sunny. I did a lovely hike along the Cave and Basin and Marsh loop trails. It was beautiful. I have so many pretty pictures.

After moving in a few of us went down to the Bow River and sat at a table drinking beer. It was beautiful. I never thought that I would be sitting in the middle of the Rocky Mountains, next to a pretty river drinking beer. It was fantastic. Although we are at a higher altitude here to what I am used to at home which means that after just 3 beers I was quite drunk, but it was a great afternoon. Below is a picture of the spot at the river that we drink at.

With the people I live with we have been doing a few pretty little hikes close to where we live. We went up over the train tracks and walked through the marshes at the bottom of Cascade Mountain for a few hours.

There are so many squirrels and deer around Banff, its pretty crazy. When I walk down the street I am usually walking around looking at the mountains, and on the way to work the other day I almost tripped over a deer, it’s crazy. They just walk around the streets, it’s really cute.
Went up to the Banff hot springs on Wednesday afternoon. It was really pretty up there, it was raining slightly so being in the hot springs with rain was quite refreshing. It’s so pretty there you just sit in the warm water and look at the mountains.

After a week of beautiful weather I woke up to find it snowing heavily. We had decided to go for a hike up Sulphur Mountain on Thursday as most of us had that day off, but it was snowing pretty heavily so we went up the gondola. Couldn’t see much from the top, but the tickets were free so we thought we shouldn’t waste them. It is so amazing to think that the town of Banff is surrounded my mountains, but when it snows you can’t see the mountains at all.

Nice pictures! You've got a good eye for picturesque images, it seems.

It's good to know you've finally got somewhere a bit more permanent to stay. I can't really tell from the picture, but if 10 or so off you are living in just that one end, does it get a bit crowded?

I'll let someone else comment on the alcohol.... :P

Hey Karyn!
So, you've discovered the effect on the body at high altitudes when exposed to alcohol, eh?
Well, those photos you've been taking certainly seem to get prettier & prettier! I really like that last one you've put up! It's lovely!
Everything here is as it always is, which is a little dull, but hey, what're you gonna do about that?
In other news: Big Brother is back on TV, and we despair.
